Required Course Texts
Ray Mitchell, “Digital Logic Design” - (Available from: UCSD Bookstore)
Contains notes covered in class, lab assignments, and homework exercises - not a complete text on digital design, however.
Miscellaneous, Complete Data Sheets - (Available here)
This document provides a simplified alternative to the Manufacturer's data books described below. It includes data sheets for the parts used in the course lab assignments, quizzes, and final exam, as well as miscellaneous IC information of interest. This document should be printed and brought to each class.
Optional Reference Texts
John F. Wakerly, "Digital Design Principals and Practices", Prentice-Hall, Inc.
Any digital design textbook should be satisfactory.
"ALS Logic Data Book", Any IC Manufacturer
Data books provide information on the integrated circuits used to construct the various lab projects. Data books from either Texas Instruments or Fairchild Semiconductor are recommended and individual data sheets are available online.
Johnson and Graham, "High-Speed Digital Design (A Handbook of Black Magic)", Prentice-Hall PTR
This book provides both a theoretical and a practical approach to designing with today's high speed digital devices where cross-talk, ground bounce, and a multitude of analog issues must be considered in digital designs.
